Bayo is a Finnish/Nigerian artist based in Helsinki. A third culture kid, he spent his formative years abroad before returning to grow out his youth in Lapland. He has been painting since the end of 2020, spurred to art — in part, by the pandemic. With the remnants of delicate melancholy still clouding his paintings. He found an avenue to explore his own language of the indecipherable, in oils. Alternating between rigid structures and abstracted forms he intensifies space through color and composition. His paintings hold an aura of the surreal, the mystical. Without coherent stories or purpose his works ignore the conceptual, and it’s restraints. Playing to the satisfaction derived from painting, of form, of colour. They’re real as far as necessary. The rest is left out.
